Loving God
Acts 17:24-28
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 'For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.’
There is nothing God needs from us – there is nothing that we can give Him that He did not give us first. Even the love within us comes from Him, for He is love.
What He desires is the return of that love – however imperfect, however flawed – that is what He truly desires. That love should manifest itself in so many ways – obedience, service, study, and prayer are just a few of the ways our love for Christ can manifest itself. But we must be careful even here.
I often hear people say, "We do this because we love Him." We must always remember that even this is not of us – it is His love, and His power that drive us to seek Him and serve Him, not our own.
So, let’s fill our lives with the love of God, that we can more effectively and efficiently love and serve Him, and those around us. Until we receive the love, we will have nothing to offer.
