Thought For The Day

"Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." (Hebrews 3:13) This is a place where new and mature Christians, alike, can come to find encouragement, and be challenged with a daily dose of God's Word to meditate on throughout the day. Together, we can grow passionate about God and His Word, allowing Him to be our guide and His Word to be our foundation.

Face to Face

Exodus 33:11
The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.

One of my favorite TV shows, Joan of Arcadia, had the premise of a modern day Joan of Arc. A young, teenage girl would have "run-ins" with God, represented physically by any number of people, and they would converse. Inevitably, God would give Joan a task, and the show would revolve around Joan completing (or not) this task from God.

I think the reason I loved this show so much, is that I love that idea of talking with God face to face, just as this verse above talks about. To have a physical and audible experience with God is my ultimate dream! I think that is one of the reasons Moses is such a favorite of mine.
I think about how exciting it would be to have a place where I could go and talk with God each and every day, and hear exactly what He has to say. I have to say that would be the ultimate experience for me, and nothing could keep me from it - I dare say, I would probably skip out on a lot of things, including sleep (which is something I really enjoy) to go and meet with God like that.

So, it occurs to me, that I have this same opportunity here and now. Every day, everywhere, I have the opportunity to meet with God and hear what He has to say to me. We all do. So, why is it not as exciting? Is it because He is not physically appearing, not audibly speaking? Ah, but He is, in His own way. That is exactly why He has given us His Word, so that we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt what He has to say to us. So, why do we not thrill at this? Why are we not leaping out of bed each and every morning, buzzing at the thought of getting to go spend some time with God, one on one, face to face? Why do we not feel privileged and honored that God would be willing to meet with us like this? We don’t even have to wait for Him to "pop-up," we can go to Him absolutely any time, anywhere! Oh, that we would see what we have right here with us. That we would begin to thrill at the thought of meeting with God, anticipating our next intimate encounter with the Creator of the universe!
